Project Summary: I will be working on a project with Dr. Aaron Chidekel in the Pulmonology department of the A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children that explores the sleep health and hygiene of children with cystic fibrosis.

How did W&L prepare you for this opportunity? My experiences at W&L have prepared me in several ways. First, all the experience I have had in lab courses will help me learn how to communicate to fellow lab members. Communication is essential when working on group projects, especially in research, so this skill is extremely valuable.

Why did you apply for this opportunity? I applied for this opportunity because I wanted to do something meaningful with my summer, and I wanted to be exposed to different career opportunities. I think this internship helps me achieve both these goals. Through working on the project, I will be helping children with cystic fibrosis improve their overall health, and I will be exposed to a number of different careers and specialties within the hospital.

Post-graduation Plans: I am not sure yet! I have taken a lot of pre-health courses but am open to a lot of different possibilities. My goal as a post-graduate is to pursue a career that serves others and engages my passion for science.

How will this opportunity help you achieve your goals? This is a great first step in achieving that goal. It’s a perfect opportunity to get my feet wet with biomedical research, which is a field I didn’t seriously consider prior to hearing about the internship. I also think it will provide me with more insight on the medical field, which could help me navigate the ways in which I can combine my desire to serve others with my love of science.
