Joe Yankelowitz – Princeton in Asia

Name: Joe Yankelowitz

Class Year: 2015

Hometown: Bronx, NY

Major(s): English, Global Politics

Opportunity and Year: Princeton in Asia, 2015-16

Project Summary: I have been awarded a fellowship to teach English in Vietnam. I will work at Can Tho University in western Vietnam.

How did W&L prepare you for this opportunity? Washington and Lee provided me with opportunities to challenge myself. Completing rigorous courses and studying abroad fostered in me a desire to push my limits. This fellowship is another chance for me to depart from my comfort zone and discover my capabilities.

Why did you apply for this opportunity? For my first year out of college, I wanted to have an unusual experience. I applied for Princeton in Asia because I knew it would offer an opportunity for me to work in a part of the world that I have never seen and form lasting relationships with the people there.
