Shenandoah Internship – ENGL 453

Shenandoah, W&L’s award-winning online literary journal, offers students the opportunity to participate in a semester-long internship, in which every intern is a staff member with responsibilities and privileges akin to those of an editorial assistant, and everyone has a voice in the decision-making process which results in each fresh issue.

Students are instructed in and assist in these facets of the editor’s work: evaluation of manuscripts, proofreading/copyediting, the arrangement of work within an issue, selection of cover art, composing contributor’s notes, responding to queries, and issuing news releases. Interns also work toward an understanding of the role of journals in contemporary literature.
